Joy’s Work Story

Joy graduated from the University of Virginia McIntire School of Commerce and began her work journey with Price Waterhouse in New York City and Washington, DC. She then spent most of her career working with start-up and high-growth companies in various industries, including international telecom. At age 33, Joy became Chief Financial Officer of a regional broadcasting company in New York.

The trajectory of Joy’s life changed when a co-worker gave her a book which prompted her to go to church—where she met Jesus. With the Lord’s help, she navigated the transition from “before Christ” to “with Christ” in the C-suite. She went on to establish her own CFO consulting practice which thrived for over 10 years with clients in Washington, DC, New York, NY, and Dallas, TX.

As Joy began writing and teaching Bible studies, God called her to get better equipped to handle His Word with care. At His prompting, she gave up her lucrative career to attend seminary, where she first heard about Theology of Work. She earned two master’s degrees and her doctorate at Dallas Theological Seminary.

Joy returned to the workplace with a new perspective of living out faith through everyday work. She served as Executive Director for an organization focused on emerging women leaders desiring to integrate faith and work. She then spent two years developing and managing financial infrastructure of people, processes, and systems to support exponential growth for a global nonprofit operating in 40+ countries. Joy then turned her focus to equipping workplace women in the Middle East as she recorded a 13-episode television series which broadcast into the region.

Today, Joy continues to provide expertise as an executive leader developing effective organizational strategies and removing barriers for growth, expansion, and transition. She also serves as a speaker, teacher, author, and dedicated advocate for faith+work integration as she leads professional development initiatives with a faith-forward perspective. Joy sits on the Board of Directors of Made to Flourish which empowers churches to integrate faith and work for the flourishing of their communities. She loves coaching and mentoring next-generation professionals growing in their leadership, and senior leaders seeking to expand impact in their broad circles of influence. Joy’s passion for collaboration and expanding Kingdom impact helped launch the BOLDLY Conference: the premier Faith+Work for Women conference. She continues to engage with a circle of sisters around the world.

Joy launched her new book, God’s Will for Your Work: Discovering Divine Purpose in Everyday Life. This pioneering resource guides readers to discover God’s will for our daily work as we pursue a more meaningful and impactful life.

Joy and her husband, Gordon, live near Philadelphia, PA with their beloved rescue pups and barn cats. Her favorite things include: international adventure, horses, big dogs, and dark chocolate.
